Welcome to issue 4 of the “Know your skin type” series. In this issue, we will cover normal skin, and as well, take a deep dive into the characteristics and the recommended skincare regimen for normal skin.
Definition
The term normal generally refers to well-balanced skin, which contains an optimal amount of sebum and moisture. Consequently, when it comes to the general appearance, normal skin is neither too oily nor too dry. Individuals with normal skin type typically experience fewer blemishes, and have reduced sensitivity to skincare products. However, occasional breakouts, dryness, or sensitivity may arise due to hormonal fluctuations, environmental changes, or factors like diet or stress.
The general traits for normal skin are:
- Soft and smooth texture
- No blemishes
- Fine pores
- Normal elasticity
- A uniform, even tone
- Good blood circulation
- The skin is not prone to sensitivity
How do I know if my skin type is normal?
(Observation and Blotting Test)
- Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, pat dry, and wait 30-60 minutes without applying any moisturizer or other product
- Normal skin feels comfortable, hydrated, and supple, not tight or greasy.
- Press a clean blotting sheet onto different areas (forehead, nose, cheeks, chin).
- For normal skin, blotting paper shows minimal to no oil, perhaps a tiny bit from the T-zone, but overall balanced.
Skincare Regimen for Normal Skin
- Cleanser: Choose a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser (gel, cream, or light foam) that cleans without stripping oils, keeping the skin balanced and hydrated. Look out for ingredients like ceramide, glycerine, and hyaluronic acid.
- Toner: Focus on gentle and effective ingredients that promote hydration and clarity without disrupting your skin’s natural balance. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and cucumber extract hydrate, soothe, and revitalize without irritation.
- Moisturizer: Use a natural light weight moisturizer like cocoa butter cream to form a protective barrier, and to also nourish your skin. Cocoa butter cream gives your skin a radiant complexion, and keeps it glowing all day.

Papaya serum also boosts a radiant complexion, and can be applied during your morning and evening skincare routine.

- Suncare: Apply a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to shield your skin from UV rays.
